Who We Are

Design Palestine is an international design collective. We are volunteer architects, landscape architects, engineers, geographers, designers and artists.

How We Work

The projects we take on are defined, grounded, and prioritized by the communities we work with. Our primary partners are 1for3 and the Lajee Center through which we support other organizations as needed.

Design Palestine is a non-political and non-partisan organization.

Our Approach

We adopt planning processes that preserve cultural heritage, respect local knowledge, address climate resilience, and support long-term sustainable development and a circular economy.

Our Practice

  • Design, consultation, or construction of projects in the built environment (inclusive of architecture, landscape, agriculture, arts, etc.)
  • Planning and development
  • Graphic design
  • Storytelling and Infographics
  • Support and consultation for grassroots enterprises
  • Research and scholarship
  • Fundraising efforts that directly support projects and initiatives

OUR PROJECTS

The Greenhouse Initiative

We are currently developing a new greenhouse design with project:if and lending support to 1for3s efforts to add dozens of new planters and greenhouses to rooftops in West Bank refugee communities.

Falastiniyat Women's Workshop

Falastiniyat at the Lajee Cultural Center will be a resource for nearby women to use for preparing and selling food and local, handmade items. The new street-fronting kitchen is designed to invite guests in to purchase items and/or participate in workshops.

Olive Grove Competition

The Olive Grove Park at the UN-administered Aida and  Al Azza refugee camps in Bethlehem is being transformed with the help of Design Palestine and participating students in the West Bank and abroad. Teams recently participated in a competition to design portions of the park which are currently uner construction.

Zahrat Al-Yasmeen Play Yard

Designed and built in a 4 month period, the design for the play yard involved converting a paved courtyard into a flexible, shaded play space with custom-built hills and structures, new planting beds for environmental education and permeable rubber tiles. The majority of the design and construction team were from the Aida Refugee Camp and materials were sourced in the West Bank. Photos by Shiraz Omar and Mejd Azzeh

Zahrat Al-Yasmeen Kindergarten

ACLAÍ Gym

Design Palestine designed and coordinated the ACLAÍ Gym, a thriving resource that holds classes for Aida and Azza residents. Learn more about their work here.

Health for Palestine Clinic

Currently under construction, the H4P health clinic will be a home base for community health workers who work with Health for Palestine in Bethlehem.
